Les objectifs pour l'année 1996 étaient les suivants: Poursuivre les premières reproductions des espèces pour lesquelles nous disposons de géniteurs GO. L'objectif est toujours de limiter le stockage d'animaux importés en produisant une descendance simultanément à des témoins C. gigas qui serviront de comparaison. Tenter des hybridations inter-spécifiques des différents taxons présents au sein du conservatoire en fonction des connaissances disponibles dans la littérature sur ce sujet (voir pour revue Gaffney et Allen, 1993). • Importer de nouvelles souches ou espèces. Élargir la gamme des espèces présentes au sein du conservatoire de souches (les capacités d'accueil de la salle de quarantaine étant Limitée).

A la recherche de l'huître portuguaise: identification de marqueurs moléculaires discriminant Crassostrea angulata et Crassostrea gigas ArchiMer

L'étude historique de l'ostréiculture française monte que cette activité est caractérisée par des périodes de prospérités et de pénurie. Des épizooties ont été à l'origine de ces alternances. A chacune de ces période, on a pu constater des changements d'espèces : Ostrea edulis fut remplacée par Crassostrea angulata, de même celle-ci fut remplacée par Crassostrea gigas dans les années 1970. L'étude de la bibliographie montre que les techniques utilisées pour distinguer des espèces Crassostrea angulata et Crassostrea gigas sont insuffisantes. L'évolution des technologies en matière d'analyses génétiques ouvrent de nouvelles perspectives. Ressources génétiques chez les huîtres creuses : conservatoire de souche et marqueurs moléculaires ArchiMer

The cupped oyster strain bank was created at Ifremer at La Tremblade in 1992. It was funded by the Poitou-Charentes regional council. Its goals were: 1. to study the intra- and interspecific genetic differentiation within the genus Crassostrea. 2. to study acclimatization potential of foreign oysters in French waters in order to identify species that could replace Crassostrea gigas in case of a major disease outbreak in C. gigas or in case of a need or desire to diversify shellfish production. 3. to study the possibility of interspecific hybridisation in the genus Crassostrea and hybrid performance.

Ils permettent désormais l'analyse approfondie et la discrimination fine de populations d'huîtres creuses Crassostrea gigas et de rechercher si certaines d'entre-elles n'auraient pas des caractéristiques intéressantes pour l'ostréiculture locale (croissance, résistance estivale, affinage ... ). La diffusion de telles populations auprès de la profession serait plus rapide car il s'agit de la même espèce. Numerous aquacultural species show very high fertilities. As a consequence, it is possible to produce, in hatcheries, a large amount of sibs from a small amount of parents. Oysters, like many marine species have a very high fecundity. Previous studies have shown that populations, from both hatcheries and the natural environment, have very low Ne/N ratios. These observations reveal high variation in reproductive success. In order to study individual reproductive success under controlled conditions, we used microsatellite markers to quantify parental contributions in in vitro crosses (5 males and 5 females) of Crassostrea gigas, the Pacific oyster. At the end of its third year, the regional network for monitoring REMONOR, confirms the particularities of oyster from Normandy in matter of growth and quality. Results from 2 000 are globally very close of those from 1998. Mortality of adults reached 14% and juvenile 6% which represent a low death rate. For this year the most blow area is the Baie des Veys with 31% death rate at Géfosse. Observed growth this year had been weaker than the past two years despite the spring and automnal growth. Etat des stocks conchylicoles normands en 2000 ArchiMer

Crassostrea gigas and Mytilus edulis are reared in four areas along the eastern coast of Cotentin (Normandy). Every five years, a stock assessment survey, based on a stratified random sampling is carried out using aerial photographs. During September 2000, oysters bags and mussel banks random samplings have been weighed on leasing grounds and in random sampled farms in order to evaluate the overall total gross and net weights breeded (oysters 40 000 and mussels 17 000 metric tons, net weights). Age compositions of each stock in each rearing area have been computed. This last stock assessment showed that cultural regulations are less and less observed in Normandy's breeding areas. The European flat oyster Ostrea edulis has been considered as the traditional French oyster for a very long time and has now nearly disappeared from our farms, as a consequence of the two successive epizootic of the Marteilia refringens parasite and Bonamia ostreae. The actual quasi monoculture of Crassostrea gigas has made necessary the search for a diversification in oyster culture, including the search for a new start of the indigenous flat oyster culture. The Ifremer has been conducting parallel works since 1985 in order to better understand the biology of the parasite as well as to try and select different lines of flat oyster resistant to Bonamia ostreae.

The regional network REMONOR showed 2001's characteristics of growth and quality of oysters (Crassostrea gigas) in the three rearing areas of Normandy. Compared to year 2000, two additional stations along the East Coast have been settled. The summer adults mortalities have been registered between 0 % and 25 %. Chromosome loss in tetraploid families of the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas ArchiMer

A comparison of growth and biochemical composition of Mytilus galloprovincialis (Lmk.) and Mytilus edulis (L.) on the West coast of Cotentin, Normandy, France 1999-2000 ArchiMer

The blue mussel, Mytilus edulis has been reared along the Normandy coast line since the 1960s. The gonadal cycle of this mussel species shows a sharp decrease in meat quality during the winter period after spawning. This decline in meat quality is so severe that sales have to be suspended from December to July. Another species of mussel, Mytilus galloprovincialis, which is reared in the lagoons along the French shore of the Mediterranean Sea has a different spawning cycle. Study of the reproductive potential of triploid oysters ArchiMer

Reproduction was studied in triploid Crassostrea gigas, by crossing gametes from diploid and triploid parents.Triploids are able to produce viable gametes and their resulting progeny consisted in diploids, aneuploids and polyploids. Gametes from triploid parents frequently led to abnormal polar body formation, even before caryogamy occurred. A high frequency of aneuploids was observed, related to the missegregation of chromosomes during meiosis in triploids. This might be due to the observed incomplete synapsis in triploid eggs during Prophase I. The proportion of aneuploids decreased during larval development, reflecting differential mortality between ploidy levels.
